Water is a Universal Solvent

Paper being instantly dissolved in water.

Water is a universal solvent, but what does that mean? This means water can dissolve nearly anything given time. Think of the Grand Canyon, massive amounts of stone carved into a canyon after millions of years, just imagine comparing that to a flood in your home or business property. Water damage in properties nearly never occurs for long enough to erode things like stone but can easily erode and dissolve things such as drywall, plaster, wood, and any paint or varnish that may be covering it. This process happens when materials are exposed to certain amounts of water for a long period of time and the molecular bonds of the material begin to weaken and deteriorate, and in some materials cases completely dissipating and becoming a mush.
